What used to be exclusively seen on hotrods has now taken the automotive industry by storm. Matte paint jobs deliver a unique finish to some of the most unique cars in the world, and now that they’re being delivered straight from many manufacturers (Audi, Mercedes, BMW, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche, Lexus, Bentley, Aston Martin, and many more), they are more common than ever. In the past many people avoided these paint jobs because you can’t wax them with traditional products and keeping them clean has been a pain until recently.

As Matte Paint is becoming more prominent, caring for the unique finish has gotten easier, too. 2011 brought upon the first complete line of matte car care products specifically designed to optimize the appearance of your flat finish. Not only that, but dedication to providing matte car owners with the proper detailing information has been on the rise, too. While the craze has been fueled by the stunning looks of a car painted matte, it is definitely becoming easier to own one. That said, I do think this craze is here to stay and you can bet that you’ll start seeing more and more on the roads.

Owning a Matte Car

Possibly the number one reason that these paint jobs have taken off so well is because owning a matte car is pretty damn cool. Because they’re still rare enough to gawk at, they are almost certain to get looks at stop signs, even if it’s a freshly repainted Gremlin. With matte paint, owners are typically presented with the option to grab the matching matte wheels, which are a must in my opinion not only because they look great, but because they don’t show as much dirt. If you’re lucky enough to grab a matte car, be ready to show off – people will be watching.

While you’re at it, don’t forget to protect it. Seriously, you don’t want to have to deal with repainting the hood after a bird leaves you a present that will eat through your paint. If you own a matte car and have any questions, I’d be happy to help. We’ve tested, detailed, and worked with matte cars in our shop so don’t hesitate to drop a line in the comments.

As any car enthusiast can attest, when it comes to waxing we’re sold on shine. People don’t seem to be that picky when it comes to shopping for car care products – keep in mind that most drivers on the road won’t even think about waxing their car. It may seem like a no brainer to the enthusiast, but the scary truth is that many drivers will ignore the signs and end up losing their beautiful paint due to negligence. Please be advised, the following conditions may not be suitable for car lovers. For those brave enough, here’s what can happen if you regretfully neglect your car’s paint…

UV Damage

Generally a few thorough machine polishing treatments will be needed to even get this close to looking like new, but in some cases repainting would be necessary. The worst part though is how easily it’s prevented; a simple wax every 3 months. Lets face it, even waxing twice a year would better your chances of avoiding this disaster.

Pigment Fading

If you don’t wax, your clear coat is going to diminish. As this lessens, so does the paint’s ability to retain its natural pigment. In many ways waxing acts like a sheet of armor between your car’s paint and the dangers of the environment. Car’s with vibrant colors are even more susceptible to these dangers, which is why we often see red or yellow cars looking dull or flat. The bottom line is that waxing helps protect the pigment layer of paint from losing its luster overtime.

Fractured, Dry Paint

Think of dry paint cracks as the lines in the skin on your hands. When paint loses its mojo and begins to dry out it is put at risk of fracturing every which way. Over time, our hands do the same thing unless we moisturize them using lotion. Wax is that lotion, but for your car’s paint. It’s that simple… a quick wax for each season and your car will be protected and free from any fractures.
